Water Resistant

A fabric that resists water for a time without being sealed against it, usually through a tight weave or a durable water-repellent finish that makes droplets bead and roll off. It is the weakest of the three outerwear claims: water resistant holds off a light shower, water repellent does more, and waterproof means a membrane or coating plus sealed seams. Repellent finishes wear off with laundering and can be damaged by heat, which matters when heat-pressing a logo onto a shell jacket — press at the lowest workable temperature and expect some loss of beading around the print.
