Soil Release Finish
Treatment — one of 37 in the glossary
A finish that helps dirt and oil let go of the fabric during washing, rather than repelling them on contact. It is the complement to stain resistance and is common on polyester and blended uniform wear, where oily soil otherwise clings to the synthetic fibre and greys the garment. Buyers running commercial laundry contracts care about it more than anyone else. Like other topical finishes it can interfere with ink and adhesive bonding, so treat a soil-release garment as a test-first job.
