Fabric — one of 56 in the glossary

A fabric with pronounced horizontal ribs running across the width, formed by a heavy filling yarn covered by finer warp yarns. The ribs give it visible texture, structure and a dressy, substantial look, common on jackets, ladies' tops and better polos. It holds its shape well and drapes with weight rather than cling. The ridges are the decorating problem: like any ribbed surface, they break up a screen print and can distort embroidery, so keep decoration small and prefer stitching to ink.
