Pearlized Buttons

Construction — one of 70 in the glossary

Buttons with an iridescent, pearl-like surface, made from polyester or resin rather than real shell. They give a polo or woven shirt a dressier look than a flat matte button for very little extra cost, which is why they are common on corporate and hospitality styles. The finish is a coating on the button, so it can dull with repeated commercial laundering. Like all buttons they need to be avoided or removed from under a heat press, since pressing on one leaves a ring in the fabric and can crack the button.
