Face Yarn

The yarn that sits on the outer, visible surface of a fabric, as distinct from the backing yarn behind it. It matters in any construction with two different faces — fleece, terry, jacquard, double knit — because the face yarn alone decides colour, texture and how the surface takes ink. A common blank combines a polyester face yarn for colour retention with a cotton back for comfort, or the reverse. When a print result differs from what the fibre content suggests, the face yarn is usually the reason.
