One-Ply Yarn

A single strand of spun yarn used as it comes off the frame, with no second strand twisted in. It is lighter and cheaper than two-ply and perfectly adequate for ordinary knitwear, which is why most t-shirt jersey is single-ply. It is also weaker and less even, so it pills sooner and can show thin spots. In terry and towelling, one-ply loops give a thinner, faster-drying but less plush product than the two-ply equivalent.
