Double Knit

Any fabric knit on two sets of needles at once, producing a double thickness joined as a single cloth. Interlock and rib are both double knits. The construction gives weight, body and dimensional stability — double knits stretch less, resist curling, and keep their shape through wash cycles far better than single knits. For a decorator that means predictable print registration and less shrink distortion after the first wash, at the cost of a heavier, warmer garment.
