Collarette

Construction — one of 70 in the glossary

The narrow strip of ribbed fabric that finishes the neckline of a t-shirt or sweatshirt, cut and sewn on as a band. A good collarette is knit as a tube so it has no join, is made from a rib with enough spandex to recover, and is set with even tension so it lies flat. A bad one is the first thing to fail on a cheap blank: it stretches out over the head, ripples, or curls after a few washes. When a customer complains that shirts "look worn out", the collarette is usually what they are seeing.
