A fine, soft wool combed from the undercoat of the cashmere goat, warmer for its weight than sheep's wool and far more expensive. It is rare in the blanks catalogue and shows up mostly as a small percentage in sweater knits and scarves, where it lifts the hand without lifting the price too far. It is delicate: it pills, it felts if washed hot, and it will not tolerate the heat or pressure used on cotton. Decorate cashmere blends with low-temperature methods or, better, with a woven label or sewn patch rather than ink.
