Rib Knit

A knit of alternating columns of face and reverse stitches, giving vertical ridges and a great deal of crosswise stretch that recovers. Ribs are named by their repeat: 1x1 rib alternates one and one, 2x1 rib gives a wider, flatter wale. It is used wherever a garment must stretch over something and spring back — collars, cuffs, waistbands, and the body of a fitted ladies' tee. Rib does not print well as a body fabric, because the ridges break up the ink film, so keep artwork on flat jersey panels where you can.
