Racer back
Garment — one of 28 in the glossary
A back cut with narrow straps that converge between the shoulder blades, leaving the shoulders and upper back open — standard on sports bras, athletic tanks and summer dresses. It frees the shoulder joint, which is why it started in swimming and running, and it keeps straps from sliding off. The narrow yoke leaves very little flat back area, so a full-size back print is rarely possible; front placement or a small upper-back mark is the practical option. The curved edges also mean the garment will not lie square on a standard platen.
