Grommet
Construction — one of 70 in the glossary
A metal or plastic ring set into a hole in fabric to stop the hole tearing and to give a drawcord, lace or hook something firm to run through. Expect them in hoodie hoods, bag closures, aprons and underarm vents. Because a grommet is a hard, raised piece of metal, it is a hazard for both screen printing and heat pressing: it will not compress under a platen and can damage a screen or a press. Keep artwork well clear of any grommet, and check ventilation grommets under the arm before planning a side print.
