Gildan 2000 Size Chart
Ultra Cotton® 100% US Cotton T-Shirt. Brands publish two different tables and call both a size chart, so both are below and each says which it is.
Garment measurements
The shirt itself, laid flat on a table. Chest is measured across, one inch below the armhole, so it is half the way round.
| Size | Body length at back | Chest | Sleeve length |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 28" | 18" | 16 1/2" |
| M | 29" | 20" | 18" |
| L | 30" | 22" | 19 1/2" |
| XL | 31" | 24" | 21" |
| 2XL | 32" | 26" | 22 1/2" |
| 3XL | 33" | 28" | 24" |
| 4XL | 34" | 30" | 25 1/4" |
| 5XL | 35" | 32" | 26 1/2" |
- Body length at back
- Measured from high point shoulder to finished hem at back.
- Chest
- Measured across the chest one inch below armhole when laid flat.
- Sleeve length
- Start at centre of neck and measure down shoulder, down sleeve to hem.
Body measurements
The person, not the shirt. Chest is measured all the way around the fullest part with the tape horizontal.
| Size | Chest |
|---|---|
| S | 36" – 37" |
| M | 38" – 40" |
| L | 42" – 44" |
| XL | 46" – 48" |
| 2XL | 50" – 52" |
| 3XL | 54" – 56" |
| 4XL | 58" – 60" |
| 5XL | 62" – 64" |
- Chest
- Measure under the arm and around the fullest part of the chest with arms down, keeping the tape horizontal.

What the numbers mean in practice
Body and chest are identical to the Gildan 5000 at every size. The difference between the two styles is 0.7 oz of fabric weight, not fit.
The sleeve figures are not comparable with the 5000's. This sheet measures from the centre of the neck down the shoulder and down the sleeve; the 5000 sheet measures from centre back neck to shoulder point to sleeve hem. Same garment family, different definition, so the numbers are larger here without the sleeve being longer.
Ultra Cotton is prepared for dyeing, which is why it turns up in tie-dye and garment-dye work. It also takes plastisol well at a normal cure.

Common questions
- Is the Gildan 2000 the same size as the 5000?
- Through the body, yes — identical body length and chest at every size from S to 5XL. The 2000 is the heavier fabric at 6.0 oz against 5.3 oz.
- Why are the 2000's sleeve measurements bigger than the 5000's?
- Because the two sheets measure the sleeve differently. The 2000 measures from the centre of the neck, across the shoulder and down the sleeve; the 5000 measures from centre back neck to shoulder point to hem. Compare sleeves only within one sheet's own convention.
- What does prepared for dyeing mean?
- The fabric carries no starches, sizing or finishes, so dye reaches the fibre evenly. It is what makes this style a common choice for tie-dye and overdye work.
