American Apparel 2001 Size Chart

Fine Jersey Tee. American Apparel publishes one table for this style — the garment itself, laid flat. Some brands also publish a body chart saying which chest a size is meant to fit; this sheet does not, so neither does this page.

Garment measurements

The shirt itself, laid flat on a table. Chest is measured across, one inch below the armhole, so it is half the way round.

Fabric and construction

  • The spec sheet publishes finished measurements only — it states no fabric weight or composition, so neither does this page.

What the numbers mean in practice

The chest matches the Bella+Canvas 3001 exactly at every size from XS to 4XL — 16 1/2″ at XS, 18″ at S, 22″ at L. The body length runs three quarters of an inch longer throughout.

The 4XL body length is printed on the sheet as 34 2/4″, which is 34 1/2″ written unusually. It is reproduced here as printed rather than tidied.

American Apparel publishes tolerances, which is more than most brands do: plus or minus 3/4 inch on body length and 1/2 inch on chest. A sample measuring slightly off the table is still inside spec.

This sheet covers the 2001. We also stock the 2001W, which is a separate item in the catalogue; do not assume the measurements carry across without checking.

The 21 colours we stock

A distributor carries a subset of what a mill offers, so this is our range rather than the brand’s full palette — 21 colours in XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL. The spec sheet also lists 4XL, which we do not carry in this style.

Common questions

Does the American Apparel 2001 run small?
It measures the same across the chest as a Bella+Canvas 3001 at every size and runs three quarters of an inch longer in the body. It is a fitted cut, so it reads slimmer than a boxy Gildan at the same nominal size.
What tolerance does American Apparel allow?
Plus or minus 3/4 inch on body length and plus or minus 1/2 inch on chest width, stated on the spec sheet itself. A sample a little off the table is still within specification.
What is the difference between the 2001 and the 2001W?
They are separate items in the catalogue. This chart is transcribed from the 2001 sheet, and the measurements should not be assumed to carry across to the 2001W without checking.
